Welcome to Naperville Violin and Musicology, an integrated and customized approach to Music Education. The approach is a combination of the traditional Suzuki "Mother Tongue" philosophy taught within a classic Liberal Arts context. Lessons are customized to fit the needs of the individual student.
You may choose the traditional Suzuki method for beginning Violin [thru Book 1], Basic technique and repertoire for Bass Guitar, Sound Reinforcement / Recording Studio Basics, or one of several supplementary Note Reading and Music Theory classes for C instruments and Piano.
The emphasis is on learning to play in a supportive and enjoyable atmosphere. The Liberal Arts element makes connections to historical and cultural elements that help bring the music to life in the mind of the student.
For younger students, parental involvement goes beyond a suggestion - it is required! NVM is based on the concept of "The Golden Triangle" - a motivated student, a qualified and inspirational teacher and supportive parents. This third element is essential to the development of the young beginner, since the parent functions as the home teacher between lessons. All parents of young beginners are required to participate in at least one Orientation lesson. These lessons will be conducted on an ongoing basis during all Semesters and are offered to the parent at no cost.
Older students wishing to pursue a non-traditional learning experience can take lessons covering Violin/Fiddle, Bass Guitar, or Sound Reinforcement / Recording Studio Basics. Any student can sign up for Note Reading or Music Theory classes at any time.
Coaching for performing musicians will also be offered on a non-semester basis. Private coaching sessions will be customized to the needs of the student after consultation.
